What this site helps you do
Our calculators help homeowners, landscapers and small contractors estimate bulk material quantities and compare entered supplier prices. The English tools focus on US ordering conventions while also accepting metric measurements.
The catalog includes gravel, topsoil and fill dirt, crushed stone, mulch, sand and generic cubic-yard volume calculations. We do not sell or deliver these materials, and the displayed cost is based on the prices you enter.
Who is behind the project
Kostyantyn’s background is in website development, SEO and webmaster work. Bulk Material Calc combines that experience with openly documented formulas and practical browser tools.
How calculations are developed and checked
Published formulas
Each calculator explains its geometric formulas, unit conversions, example calculations and material assumptions. Unit conversion uses exact factors where available; results keep full precision internally and round only for display.
Numerical tests
Automated tests compare results with independent control examples. Checks cover US/metric conversions, prices, missing values, invalid inputs, packaging rounding and material-specific settings.
Browser checks
Before release, we check input controls, error handling, live diagrams and responsive layouts in the browser. Code and content preparation use AI-assisted development; automated and browser checks are part of the workflow. No independent engineering certification is implied.
Sources and material assumptions
Sources are linked near the methods on the calculator pages. They include NIST unit conversions, supplier product references and university-extension guidance where relevant.
A supplier reference is not one density for every product. Moisture, grading, voids and how a material is packed can change its bulk density. Enter your supplier’s value when available. Unknown density stays unknown; it is not silently shown as zero weight.
What the results do not establish
These are planning estimates, not engineering designs, approved specifications or binding quotes. They do not establish soil suitability, structural capacity, a vehicle’s safe payload, playground impact protection or code compliance. Follow the project specification and obtain supplier or qualified professional input where needed.
Our extra-material percentage is an ordering allowance. A crushed-stone compacted target requires a supplied loose-to-compacted multiplier. We do not substitute a universal compaction percentage for a product-specific specification.
Corrections and contact
If you notice an issue, include the calculator URL, input values and units, the result shown and the result you expected. For source questions, include a link to the product specification or reference. Avoid sending private project addresses, passwords or payment information.
